The USD 405 Board of Education met on January 14 to discuss the current CO VID situation in our schools and to consider changes to the current plan. Those individuals identified as close contacts last week and required to test daily, will not have to be tested. Instead, starting on Tuesday, January 18, they will be monitored for symptoms and required to properly wear a well-fitted mask for 10 days from their last contact with a COVID-positive person. If the close contact shows symptoms, they can be tested at school following the guidelines already established and may stay in school with a negative test and a mask. Attempting to keep schools open and staff and students safe, the board adopted some of the CDC's latest guidelines reducing quarantine pends. A summary of our current plan with the recent changes is shown below. COVID-positive: Staff and students diagnosed as COVID-positive will be required to quarantine at home for 5 days beyond the first date of diagnosis or first symptoms (day 0). On day 6, the COVID-positive person may return to school if they have been fever-free for the previous 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications and a negative antigen test provided by and conducted at school. A well-fitting mask must be properly worn for days 6-10. School Close Contact: Staff and students determined to be a close contact to a COVID-positive person while at school, will be able to stay in school and will need to properly wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days following the last contact with the COVID-positive person. No testing will be required unless the close contact shows symptoms. If the close contact shows symptors, they can be tested at school following the guidelines alrcady established and may stay in school with a negative test and a mask. Home Close Contact: Staff and students determined to be a close contact of a COVID-positive person at home will be required to quarantine at home for the 10 days of the COVID-positive person's fuli quarantine period and an additional 5 days. On the 16* day of the close contact's quarantine, they can return to school properly wearing a well-fitted mask for days 16-20. If the close contact shows symptoms, they can be tested at school following the guidelines already established and may stay in school with a negative test and a mask. Community Close Contact: Staff and students determined to be a close contact of a COVID-positive person in the community will be required to quarantine at home for 5 days after the last contact with the COVID-positive person. On the 6" day of the close contact's quarantine, they can return to school properly wearing a well-fitted mask for days 6-10. If the close contact shows symptoms, they can be tested at school following the guidelines already established and may stay in school with a negative test and a mask. We continue to socially distance, wash hands, disinfect, sanitize, and wear masks through at least January 21 as well.
