Message from Superintendent

National School Counselors’ Week: If you haven’t had a chance to do so, thank our school counselors for their vital work! Thank you LHS Counselor Courtney Farmer, LMS Counselor Christi Reid, Central Elementary Counselor Kami Oelke, and Park Elementary Counselor Anna McLain!

HS Forensics: The high school forensics team continues to have a highly successful season. We have a large team and a high number of state qualifiers already, as well as placing 1st and 2nd as a team in a couple of meets this young season. Congratulations to Mrs. Hershberger, Mr. Lowrey, and the team!

Wrestling: If you have been watching the newspaper or Facebook, you are aware that the boys’ and girls’ MS and HS wrestling teams have all had tremendous success this year. Congrats to the coaches and wrestlers. The girls have Regionals at Wellington tomorrow, and the boys have Regionals at Larned on the 17th-18th. We have many individuals who could break into the State tournament. Congratulations to Easton Benavidez for his championship at 106 pounds in the Central Kansas League.

Community Outreach Committee: We are putting together a community outreach committee to continue our efforts to get our schools more involved in the community and to get the community more involved in the schools.  Thanks to those who have already volunteered!

Reality U: Speaking of community involvement, we will have Reality U again this year at the MS gym on Tuesday, February 21. This activity requires a lot of community volunteers from banking, insurance, retail, government services, etc. It teaches kids the value of continuing their education and the relationship between their decision making and their ability to reach goals.

FFA CDE: Congrats to LHS Ag Teacher and FFA Sponsor Kristin Dolechek for organizing and supervising an FFA Career Development Event held at the Celebration Centre this week. There were approximately 500 FFA members from about 40 different schools there competing in poultry evaluation, agribusiness management, and food science.

Two more College Athletes: Congrats to Caitlyn Belote who signed this week to play basketball for Sterling College and to Stone Starbuck who signed to play golf with Bethel College.

HS Basketball: Congratulations to both the high school girls and boys basketball teams as they swept Nickerson this week!

LifeSmarts: Congrats also to Mrs. Steinert and the LMS LifeSmarts team for finishing first place in the nation this week! LifeSmarts is a national consumer education program.
