Students watching a zoom meeting with Cosmosphere

Central has partnered with the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson for our after-school program.  We have roughly 35 students participating in the program. The spring session lasts for 6 weeks and covers electricity.  The kids stay after school for 2 days a week.  On the first day, we zoom in with the Cosmosphere and they teach a lesson for 45 minutes.  On the second day, we complete the activities provided by the Cosmosphere and any extra activities we have created if time permits.   The students so far have been able to create a closed circuit to make a buzzer go off.  They also created a battery using pennies, washers, wires and felt to create another closed circuit to make a buzzer go off.  Each group was successful in these tasks!  They used PVC pipe and a cloth to create static electricity in order to move a pop can across the table.  The kids really enjoyed this activity and we even had a relay race!

The kids get involved in the lessons and activities they participate in and are always excited to see what we will learn and do next.
