Hi! My name is Kari Troyer and I am a Parent Educator (Home Visitor) for Parents as Teachers. I have been working with Parents as Teachers and USD 405 since 2001 and have been a Parent Educator since 2013. Parents as Teachers empowers parents and strengthens families by highlighting their strengths and providing research-based information on child development and family well-being. I love being able to celebrate with families when things are going well and supporting them when there is a struggle. It is so important for Parents to recognize themselves as their child’s first and best teachers. Our program also endeavors to help families connect with the school system, other local resources, and each other. The goal is to let them know they are never alone on their parenting journey and we believe
it strengthens the whole community.
You can learn more about Parents as Teachers at www.parentsasteachers.org. Our local program can be contacted by calling our director, Amy Kuhn at 620-257-5196 ext. 128. We can also be found on Facebook under “Lyons Parents as Teachers” and “Sterling Parents as Teachers”.
My husband and I have called Lyons home since 1994. We have raised 3 children here. We like to make memories by taking regular family vacations, often to Montana where my husband and I both grew up. We enjoy doing things that involve being out in nature. My personal hobbies include reading mystery novels, painting, watching movies and occasionally, when I have time, trying out craft ideas from Pinterest. I also very much enjoy my other part-time job of being the Youth Leader for 7th-12th grade students at the First United Methodist Church in Lyons.
