GEMINI LAUNCH YEAR: 2019
Lyons Middle School is a 6-8 building. Students are split in to 4 sections for Math and ELA and split in to 3 sections for Science and History at grade levels 7 and 8. Our 6th graders have 3 sections for Science and Math, as well as ELA which has incorporated History lessons.
Some of our unique elective offerings include Bucket Drumming, Leadership, Rocketry, Wildlife exploration, the Holocaust, Newspaper, Creative Writing, Robotics, Industrial Arts and Agriculture.

OUR STRATEGIES IMPLEMENTED FOR REDESIGN…
PBL: Boy Scout Badges, several staff trained in the Buck Institute, and incorporation into all classes
ESL program for students, ESL committee for parents and a parent liaison for our Hispanic population
A Social Emotional Program including a soft start to the day with communities and implementing the Second Step Program
Student Choice at lunch: students have one hour to eat lunch and choose from various activities like card games, Legos, robotics, dance, yoga, crafts, computer games, reading, PBL or gym time.
GO Time: Gemini Organizational Time for staff to research and develop ideas to better support our students. Students use the time as study hall, goal setting, organization for classes or gym time.
Interventions: Tier 2 addressed as a school-wide initiative coupled with PBL and DEAR. Tier 3 pull out for Math and ELA.
Core Classes are blocked together to provide flexibility and coordinated lesson planning.
All classes have one day per week with extended time for flexibility in lessons, like labs, PBL or other hands on activities.
Community Outreach to determine areas where we can help our community and where businesses and parents can help us.
Student Leadership group that offers a student perspective of redesign to visitors at our school.
