LMS Builders Club Activities

Twelve Builders Club members from Lyons Middle School attended the annual Kansas District Builders Club Conference in Hutchinson at the Cosmosphere on Saturday, October 29. Other schools in attendance besides Lyons were Anthony, Pratt, Russell, Smith Center, and a private junior high from Topeka with a total of 76 students and fourteen sponsors.

The Downtown Hutchinson Kiwanis Club was the host for the event. Kansas District Kiwanis President Brad Shields of Goodland attended the meeting and spoke to the students. Several members of the Circle K Club from Hutchinson Junior College assisted with the ice breaker activities.

During the day, students had the opportunity to tour the museum at the Cosmosphere and watch an IMAX movie on Tornado Alley. Dr. Gizmo presented a science show. In addition, students heard about the Kiwanis family activities and watched videos on two Kiwanis projects – Eliminate and Victory Junction.

Members attending the conference were: Katherin Alvidrez, Gia Bryant, Zury Barroteran, Daniel Capps, Jonathan Gomez, Dakota Lowrey, Austin McCabe, Dion Walters, Syndi Wilson, Kylie Young, Alex Gillespie, and Jasmin Holguin. Linda Keller was the sponsor.

On Sunday, October 30, Parents as Teachers (PAT) hosted their annual Pumpkin Patch activity as the Recreation Commission Gym. Members of the Lyons Middle School Builders Club assisted the PAT staff with the setup for the afternoon, assisted with the games and activities that the children participated in. A fun afternoon was had by the children as well as the Builders Club members.

Builders Club members who helped with the Pumpkin Patch activity were:  Austin McCabe, Daniel Capps, Dakota Lowrey, Tayla Link, Sydni Wilson, Gia Bryant, Bailey Hollinger, Kylie Young, Cassidy Troyer, Ashlyn Troyer, Kyla Calhoun, Kassidy Clarke, and Mallory Vesper.
