On Feb. 11, the Lyons Middle School wrestling team travelled to Larned for a tournament. The team ended up placing third as a team and had eight wrestlers bring home medals. For the first competition of the year, the team came out and wrestled with intensity and showed much of the technique the team has worked on so far in practice. Placing for the Lions along with their records were Cordon Rowley 5-0 (1st), Dalton Goans 2-1 (2nd), Denzel Clark 2-1 (2nd), Kole Clarke 3-0 (1st), Cody Clarke 3-0 (1st), Jose Arriola 4-1 (2nd), Bryan Rascon 2-0 (1st), and Dylon Newill 3-1 (3rd). Others wrestling and their records were Oscar Jaime 1-3, Jude Meyers 1-4, Drake Link 1-2, Elliot May 0-2, and Kelcey Kroetsch 1-2.
On Feb. 15 the team went to Salina to wrestle Hays Kennedy and St. John’s Military. No team scores were kept. The team won only 3 of 9 matches with Hays. Those who lost understood where they made their mistakes and against St. John’s they came back and wrestled much better. We won 8 out of 9 matches with them. The team continues to work hard in practice and enjoys the work. They will only get better as the short season continues. Records for the double dual were Denzel Clark 1-0, Oscar Jaime 0-1, Cordon Rowley 1-0, Jude Meyers 1-0, Dalton Goans 1-0, Drake Link 1-0, Edgar Fierro 1-0, Kole Clarke 2-0, Jose Arriola 0-2, Cody Clarke 2-0, Elliot May 1-3, and Kelcey Kroetsch 0-1. Bryan Rascon and Alberto Garcia wrestled each other in an exhibition match with Rascon winning.
