Board Of Education Meeting

The Board of Education Highlights from the June meeting are posted on the District Office- Board of Education - Minutes. The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will begin at 6:00 p.m.
on Monday, July 8 at the Frisbie Education Center.

We request that the following process be used by school bus drivers, students who drive to school, and parents who transport their children to and from school.

Morning Drop-off:

-High School students enter the parking lot from either the Dinsmore Avenue entrance or the east American Road entrance.

-Parents drop off at either the LMS drive or the LHS lot or circle.

-Busses drop off at the LHS circle.

Afternoon Pick-up:

-High School student exit the parking lot from either the Dinsmore Avenue exit or the east American Road exit.

-Parents pick-up in either the LMS or LHS parking lot. If using the LHS lot, enter and exit from the Dinsmore Avenue drive or the east American Road drive.

-Buses will pick-up LMS and LHS students at the LHS circle.

We believe these procedures are necessary for both student safety and better traffic flow.

Explanation of  lunchroom charging policy.

Inserted Image

Every child on full or reduced meals can charge up to 5 meals Full (-$12.75) reduced (-$2.00) to their account before they are no longer allowed to charge and will be required to have a cheese sandwich, fruit and milk for lunch at no charge. Breakfast is included in those 5 meals If your child chooses to bring a sack lunch and would like to have a milk, it cost .55 cents.  If the student is on free or reduced meals the milk is still going to cost .55 cents.  Please send .55 cents with your child for each milk they plan to drink.

We are a very concerned school district, and we do everything in our power to make sure all children get a well-balanced meal every day. All elementary school children are informed when they get low on funds to let their parents know that they need more lunch money. In addition, we send at least two letters home each week to each child who is in the negative.

Lyons Middle School and High School are informed of their balance daily. Anyone who has a negative balance gets a notice given to them at school. We feel that middle school and high school students are old enough to tell their parents when they need money.

Occasionally, a parent may wish to join your child for a school lunch. Please call ahead the morning you plan to come before 8:30 AM and let us know so we can order an extra lunch from our school cafeteria and won’t run short on lunches for the day.

We hope this information will help assure you that your child will get to eat every day. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to call your students attending building office.

We Want To Hear From You

Attention LHS Class of 2011 and 2016: We would like to conduct a survey of our graduates five years and one year after high school. Please contact us to give us your current contact information if you would like to participate. Call the high school 620-257-5114 or the superintendent 620-257-5196 x 124.

A Reminder For Guests:

Please note that you will need to enter in through the LHS main entrance for all high school activities. The main entrance for the middle school will be locked

Lyons High began using Access Control doors earlier this school year. These doors are an added safety feature which allows us to monitor who is entering the building.

Doors to the high school will be locked at all times, except between 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., the front doors of the airlock will be unlocked for students to enter the building.

After 8:15 a.m., the front doors will be locked, entrance to the building will be monitored by a camera and intercom system for the Access Control door. After pushing the button, located by the south front door, visitors will be asked to identify themselves and state the reason for their visit before gaining entrance into the building. All guests must register in the office and wear a visitors badge for the duration of their stay.

Cell Phones Not Permitted During Instructional Time

Unlike many high schools, students at Lyons High School are permitted to carry their cell phones during the day.

Use of their cells phones is restricted to certain times so that it does not interfere with the learning environment of the classroom. Students are allowed to use their cell phones before and after school, during their lunch period and between passing periods.

Cell phones are not to be used during the "instructional time" of class, which starts when the bell rings to begin the class period and ends when the bell rings to end the class period.
