Visualizing E. A. Poe
by Debbie Dumler
The sound of a Raven screeching “Nevermore, Nevermore” could be heard in the Freshman English classes as they studied some of the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Students read two short stories, “The Cask of Amontillado” and “The Black Cat” also they viewed a reading of the poem “The Raven” by Vincent Price. After completion of these they were asked to create a visual of one of the stories. The sky was the limit for the visual. Student projects included posters, a diorama, a power point and a couple of “paint” pictures completed on the computer. Students then had to present their visual to the class and explain why each object was used in the project. Finally, there had to be a “theme” for the visual. The theme had to relate to a lesson that was learned through reading the stories. Please enjoy the slide show of the visuals
