Victorian High Tea
by Debbie Dumler
The 9th grade English classes spent the month of December reading Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. They were asked to pay special attention to the characters because they would have to portray one at the end of the unit. That day came when they were all invited to have high tea during class on January 4th. The tea had been planned for December 22nd, but because of the snow day that was taken, it had to be postponed. Students came dressed up as Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, The Ghost of Christmases Past, Present and Future, Jacob Marley, and Little Fan (Scrooge's sister). Each character had to introduce themselves with a quote from the book, or with an action the character performed. Then they enjoyed lemon pound cake, a variety of scones, cucumber sandwiches, shortbread cookies, Earl Grey Tea and Wassail. Following the refreshments students played a game of 20 questions, a form of the game "Yes and No" that was played in the novel .Please check out the slideshow for more photos of the party.
