Welcome to USD 405's Virtual Private Network! The use of USD 405's VPN is for administrators, teachers and/or staff members. Many USD 405 staff members, teachers, and mobile users have asked for access to server files from outside the district e.g. traveling, home, conferences, etc...If you are unable to login or need to be set up to use this wonderful service, please contact USD 405's Director of Technology/Building Technology Representative or Principal.
How the USD 405 VPN works:
Access USD 405 VPN by clicking on the Cisco 405 VPN button on any
page within USD 405's web site (http://www.usd405.com). Then enter
your USD 405 Novell username and password, just as you would when
you login to your computer.
From here, the Cisco VPN Client will be launched be sure to agree to the installation. You may be prompted by a yellow drop down window "asking for permission to run active x--click ok too all of the questions to install active x. Also, when prompted, you will see a security certificate acceptance window, click yes and a web site certificate click yes to all.
Once installed, look at the system tray in the bottom right hand corner and you should see a yellow pad lock that should be latched. Indicating you are connected and receiving data and talking to the network.
Once you observe the locked pad lock, (in your system tray) find the Red Novell "N" also in the system tray and right-click on it and select Novell Login. Enter your username and password as you normally would. Then you should see your Novell screen Launching scripts, it is mapping your drive letters out to your files. That's it!! Now you can access your file(s), by either working with them on the server or copying the file(s) to your local desktop.
Keep in mind that if you copy a file from the server to your computer that is not yours, you are responsible for the security of that data. In a case like this, please delete that file from the non-USD 405 computer prior to leaving.
Note: Please be patient when connecting or using the USD 405 VPN it will not have the speed when you are your desk, however, if you experience any traffic slow downs, log-in issues this may be due to heavy use, bandwidth limitations, or out of licenses. Please disconnect and re-connect to clear memory on your machine, 9 out 10 times this will fix the log in problems and/or slow network access.
