"These Girls Were Really Fired Up and Played With a Lot of Determination," said LMS Coach Doug Higgins

Lyons Middle School pushed Hutchinson Trinity in the first volleyball game of the match, but the Celtics cam back to beat the 8A team 26-28 and 20-25.

"We played well enough to win and really did a lot of nice things fundamentally," LMS coach Mary Higgins said. "We just ended up without the win. We covered the floor well, dug up many of their spikes and really did well on service reception. We even came out on top after several long volleys. It was very good volleyball for middle school level."

In the 7A game, Lyons won the first game 27-25, but Trinity ended up with the match win 17-25 and 17-25.

"We played well at times and then we couldn't seem to do anything right," seventh grade coach Val Loesch noted. "We just seemed to start standing around and didn't take advantage of our sets and hits. We were on the defensive instead of attacking the ball when we had our chances. We were inconsistent with our serving and you have to put the ball into play in order to score."

The 8B team picked up the only win for the Lions, 25-20 and 25-22. "These girls wer really fired up and pumped up and played the eintire match with a lot of determination," LMS coach Doug Higgins commented. "They have continued to constantly improve at many of the fundamentals of volleyball. For a change our serving was right on target and we had some very good plays at the net and didn't give up on some of our hits."

Trinity won the 7B match in two games, 17-25 and 23-25. "These girls have continued to gain confidence out on the court and continue to improve with their skills," Leosch said. "We got so close in the second game which would have forced a third game but just couldn't seem to finish it."

Serving well for the Lions were Andrea Allison, Alyssa Deutsch, Amand Lange, Diana Villaneuva, Brecken Evans, Cara Johnson, Mayra Armendariz, Kianna Stewart, Taylor Suhler, Kennya Ortiz, Tiffany Thomas, Mindy Bieker, Veronica Landeros, Alissa McVey, Shynia Peterman, Sierr Owens, Diana Villaneuva and Nancy Ortiz.

Lions will host Ellinwood on Thursday October 2nd.
