Little Lions Literacy Night
On Tuesday March 11, Mrs. Mathews’ kindergarten class held its third Little Lions Literacy Night. Her students and their families were involved in “family reading,” singing a song, a short writing lesson, and then a writing activity. The literature sent home had information on the different developmental writing stages that children go through when learning to write and read. Parents were provided a picture and an explanation about each of these stages so they could better understand what stage their child is currently writing.
The students and their families wrote 1 or more sentences together, emphasizing on capital/lower case letters, finger spaces, and punctuation. The younger siblings wrote scribbles or alphabet letters while the older siblings wrote stories or even a letter to Mrs. Mathews. After completing the writing activity the families ate a small snack and anxiously awaited the door prizes!
The door prize winners included Elijah, Ismael, and Randall. Prizes were donated by Lyons Federal, Sonic, Wendy’s, Dr. Bettin D.D.S, Pizza Hut, and Lyons State Bank. Snacks were provided by Lyons Vet Clinic. Mrs. Mathews would like to thank all community businesses that have made Little Lions Literacy Night such a success!
