Literacy Days at Park School

Students at Park School have been treated to several Literacy Days to promote reading. Books are brought to life through Reader's Theater, dramatization, and movies. Early this year, some staff members presented a Reader's Theater of Hattie and the Fox. At Christmas time students watched The Polar Express and more recently they enjoyed a dramatization of The Web Files by Margie Palatini.
Classroom teachers read The Web Files to their students and discussed the characters and the plot. During Music class, students learned and practiced a repetitive part of the story. Then Casey Dwyer presented the book to students by taking on the role of each character through different voices and actions. Students participated with Casey by chanting the repetitive lines practiced in Music class.
Each month, different posters are hung throughout the school promoting reading and books. At the end of each Literacy Day, students receive a bookmark, similar to the posters they have seen around the school. Several more Literacy Days are planned in the upcoming months.
