Garrett Johnson has seen his times improve each race this season.

LYONS CC AT LARNED

by Larry Dumler

September 22, 2007

We had another great day of competition.  The kids stepped up and ran very well.   This is a very hilly coarse and they reacted very well.  We ended up 2nd behind Stafford.  We beat them last week at their home meet and they beat us today by about the same margin.

We had 14 season PR’s and on this coarse that is really something else.  Tabitha, Mat, Alec, Nathaniel, Travis, Nick, Larry, Carissa, Cody, Dalton, Danielle, Frankie, Robert, Sam and Carlos all set their season PR’s.

We will run Tuesday at our only home meet of the season.  The races begin at 4 at Camp Wajato with Seventh grade race.  The High School races begin at 4:30 with the JV Girls’ race.  This will be a very high quality meet with several rated teams in the State coming in.  There will also be several individuals racing that will be looking at individual titles in the State meet.  We have two meets this next week which is extremely tough on the kids.  We will have two light workouts on Monday and Wednesday this week which doesn’t help our situation much for hard workouts.  We will have to treat the meets as practice days, and just work through them.

Robert Langdell is running for the first time for LHS

We need some more over distance work in the next few weeks.  We still are running out of gas the last half mile or so.  I know the kids don’t like that kind of workout but it will be necessary.  The over distance will be combined with hard speed work which should result in our times getting faster.  We need to take about 30 seconds off our top runners time by the time Regionals come around.  That sounds like it is not very much but it is 10 seconds a mile and sometimes that is a bunch.
