Holt Mathematics

6th Grade Math

by Christi Reid

July 07, 2007

The 6th grade math curriculum is two-fold: with both a traditional text, Holt Mathematics and a standards based program, Mathematics In Context (MIC).  Students are given real world problems where math facts and concepts are embedded in problem solving skills and later reinforced through traditional practice.  Each book is focused on one of the four math standards: Number Sense, Algebra, Geometry, and Data/Statistics.

Other books and supplemental materials and programs are used to reinforce concepts, including Hands on Equations and Middle School Math with Pizzazz.

The standards and examples of types of questions that students are assessed on at the 6th grade level can be found at the following link: 6th Grade Math Standards
